Dots & Boxes is a classic pencil-and-paper puzzle game that’s been around forever. It’s simple to learn but gets surprisingly strategic once you start playing. You take turns drawing lines between dots on a grid, trying to complete squares. The twist? You get an extra turn every time you close a box, so the game’s all about setting up traps and forcing your opponent into bad moves.

You and another player take turns connecting adjacent dots with a single line. When you draw the fourth side of a box, you claim it—your initial or symbol goes inside. Then you go again, which can lead to chain reactions if you’re clever. The goal is to own the most boxes by the time the grid fills up. It’s quick, addictive, and perfect for short bursts of play or long, tense matches.
