Gameplay
Steer freely within the playfield as the scenery scrolls, firing dragon breath at opponents while avoiding shots and contact. Weapon pickups change your attack, and repeated upgrades increase its effectiveness. Holding back from firing builds a stronger shot, creating a choice between constant pressure and saving up a more powerful attack. A miniature form changes the dragon’s size, adding another variation to the action. Bosses and mid-stage opponents interrupt the smaller enemy waves with larger targets that need sustained attention. As in other scrolling shooters, watching the open space around your character is as important as following what you are firing at. The game also offers short timed score modes, giving you a separate objective based on performance within a fixed session rather than finishing the main adventure.
Good to know
The Japan label identifies the Japanese release, with Japanese text and menus. Child of Dragon is the subtitle. The main game uses visual shooting challenges, so most moment-to-moment decisions concern movement and attack placement.
