Xevious – Fardraut Densetsu is a vertically scrolling shoot ’em up for the TurboGrafx-16. It combines an adaptation of the original Xevious with a separate Fardraut mode that adds a short story-driven campaign. Both versions build on the series’ distinction between airborne enemies and targets on the ground, giving your ship two kinds of attack to manage.

Gameplay

Fly around the scrolling battlefield, use forward fire against aircraft, and drop bombs on ground installations. A targeting marker shows where bombs will land, so attacking a surface target requires lining up more than the nose of the ship. Meanwhile, airborne enemies and their shots keep you moving. The challenge is to watch both layers at once without letting one distract you from the other. The original-style mode follows Xevious’ familiar pattern of formations and installations, while Fardraut mode introduces different ships, power-ups, and story scenes across its campaign. Those changes give the two selections their own pacing while preserving the split between air and ground combat. Learning when a target enters bombing range is as important as reacting to a fighter directly ahead. Holding a useful position creates attacking opportunities, but remaining still too long gives incoming fire an easier target as the landscape continues to scroll.
