Cyber Core is a vertically scrolling shoot ’em up for the TurboGrafx-16’s Japanese PC Engine counterpart. Instead of a conventional spacecraft, you control an insect-like bio-fighter called Chimera. Its changing forms and separate attacks for airborne and ground targets give the shooting a biological theme.

Gameplay
Move around the overhead playfield, shoot flying enemies, and use the ground attack against threats below. The two attack types make target selection part of staying alive: a danger on the surface needs a different response from something approaching at your height. Colored pickups transform Chimera and alter its weapon pattern. Repeated upgrades develop the chosen form, so collecting items influences both offensive coverage and the way you line up targets. Concentrated shots favor direct alignment, while wider patterns cover more of the screen. Enemy formations, ground positions, and boss attacks require you to divide attention between shooting and finding safe movement space. Progress means surviving the scrolling stages and defeating the larger insects waiting at their ends. Protecting your upgraded form helps keep the firepower needed for those later encounters.
Good to know
The Japan label identifies the Japanese release, with Japanese text and menus. This entry is the PC Engine edition on TurboGrafx-16 hardware. It does not carry an English fan translation mark.
