Download is a horizontally scrolling shoot ’em up for TurboGrafx-16 with a cyberpunk setting. You control a hoverbike traveling through a future city and into cyberspace. Gameplay
At the start of a stage, you can choose a main weapon and a supporting weapon. A focused laser concentrates damage ahead, while a spread attack covers a wider area and is useful against groups. The supporting choices include homing missiles, an explosive defensive option, and a temporary barrier. These secondary tools have limited uses, so collecting replenishment items matters during longer sections. Weapon upgrades found in the stage improve the loadout you selected. Once the screen begins moving, you steer around enemies and incoming fire while keeping targets in your weapon’s path. A different equipment choice can change how manageable a difficult section feels, making repeat attempts an opportunity to adjust your approach. The main challenge is to combine a suitable loadout with precise movement as mechanical enemies occupy the space ahead of the bike.
