Dragon Spirit is a vertically scrolling shoot ’em up for TurboGrafx-16 that replaces a spacecraft with a fire-breathing dragon. The fantasy setting features enemies both above the landscape and on the ground. Separate attacks for those two layers make reading the whole screen an essential part of each stage.

Gameplay
Your forward fire handles airborne creatures, while bombs strike targets below. Ground eggs release power-ups when destroyed, rewarding attention to features that are easy to overlook while dodging flying enemies. Some items strengthen your fire, and others add extra dragon heads to increase the number of shots you can send forward. More firepower helps clear formations, but it does not remove the need to move around hazards and incoming attacks. The dragon occupies a noticeable area of the screen, making narrow gaps more demanding to judge. Bosses test whether you can keep aiming at a large opponent while reacting to its own repeated patterns. The game’s rhythm comes from switching attention between the two attack layers, collecting upgrades when there is room, and keeping the dragon away from damage long enough to carry those gains into later fights.
