Dungeon Explorer is a top-down action role-playing game for TurboGrafx-16. You choose a fantasy adventurer and travel between settlements, outdoor areas, and monster-filled dungeons. Combat happens in real time, with the character firing projectiles in the direction you face. Different classes bring their own statistics and magic, giving your choice of hero a practical effect on the journey.

Gameplay
Moving through a dungeon means dealing with crowds of enemies while looking for passages that lead deeper inside. Monster generators keep producing opposition until you destroy them, so clearing a route involves targeting both the creatures and their source. Narrow corridors can limit where you can move and shoot, while open rooms give enemies more ways to approach. Black and white magic provide abilities that depend on the chosen class, and collecting supplies helps you keep going between major encounters. Boss fights mark important steps in the adventure. Their crystals can improve character statistics, with the crystal’s color determining the type of improvement. The original game supports cooperative play for up to five players, sharing the same screen as the group explores and fights. Solo play follows the same dungeon-focused structure.
