Dungeon Explorer is a TurboGrafx-16 action RPG that combines overhead dungeon exploration with continuous projectile combat. Your hero joins a search for the Ora Stone in a land overrun by hostile forces. A selection of character classes, including the fighter, elf, and bishop, offers different strengths and magical abilities. The adventure moves between towns, fields, and underground areas rather than presenting every encounter as a separate battle screen.

Gameplay
You aim by facing an enemy, then fire while keeping enough room to avoid incoming attacks. Dungeons contain generators that produce more monsters, giving you a reason to push forward and eliminate their source. Conversations help direct the journey, while supplies and character improvements support longer expeditions. Defeating a boss produces a crystal that cycles through colors. Taking it at the right moment selects which statistic receives an increase, adding a small timing decision to character growth. White and black magic vary by class, so the same situation can play differently with another adventurer. The original release also allows up to five people to cooperate on one screen. Its password system records progress, letting the larger quest continue beyond a single sitting.
