Energy is a side-view action-adventure game for TurboGrafx-16 set in a ruined city overrun by monsters. You control a young fighter who attacks with psychic energy while searching for missing companions. The game combines shooting and platform movement with exploration, sending you through damaged urban areas and underground passages. Its screen-by-screen structure makes each new section a separate space to examine.

Gameplay

You move through the environment by running, jumping, and climbing while firing energy shots at approaching enemies. Combat makes room for exploration, but progress also depends on finding the correct route and gathering what you need to continue. Characters encountered along the way can provide information, and new abilities allow you to return to places that were previously difficult or impossible to pass. That gives the adventure a backtracking structure: reaching a new screen does not always mean you have finished with the area behind it. Health and psychic resources also affect how safely you can keep moving. The action asks you to watch the placement of enemies around platforms and passageways, then choose when to advance. Finding your way through the connected locations is just as central as defeating the monsters in them.
