Formation Soccer – On J. League is a TurboGrafx-16 soccer game based on Japan’s professional league. It features the ten clubs from the league’s early seasons and uses an overhead view that follows play along the field. Exhibition, league, and All-Star options provide different match settings. Team selection and formation choices establish your side before the direct action begins.

Gameplay
Attacking involves moving the ball into space, choosing a passing route, and finding a good angle for a shot. When possession changes, your attention shifts to recovering the ball and protecting the approach to your goal. The controls provide different actions for offense and defense, keeping passing, shooting, and challenges tied to the current situation. A passing-direction indicator helps show where the ball can be sent, while the formation shapes where teammates are likely to support an attack. League play connects individual fixtures into a larger competition, and exhibition offers a shorter match on its own. The original game also supports up to four players in its exhibition and All-Star formats, with cooperative league play available for two teammates. The main objective stays the same across these options: create scoring chances and finish the match with more goals.
