Gaia no Monshou is a fantasy turn-based strategy game for TurboGrafx-16. You command an army on compact battlefields, moving units across different terrain and attacking opposing troops. Scenario, Construction, and Campaign modes use that tactical system in different ways. The emphasis is on arranging a force and managing its position, with each unit’s movement and attack range shaping what it can accomplish.

Gameplay

Battles proceed in phases, allowing one side to act before control passes to the other. Terrain and other units affect routes through the map, so the shortest approach is not always available. Close-range fighters can hold positions while ranged units need room to attack without being exposed. The compact maps bring both forces into contact quickly and make the space around an important unit valuable. Scenario mode supplies ready-made encounters with predetermined forces. Construction lets you arrange armies for a chosen map, providing a way to explore different matchups. Campaign links battles together and uses recruitment points, making the survival of your troops relevant beyond one encounter. Losing units or performing poorly can reduce the resources available for later fighting. Progress therefore involves both winning the immediate battle and preserving enough strength to keep your army effective afterward.
