Gunhed is a vertical space shooter for the TurboGrafx-16’s Japanese PC Engine counterpart, developed by Compile with Hudson Soft. Known in North America as Blazing Lazers, it sends a fighter through nine scrolling areas filled with enemy craft, installations, and large bosses. A flexible weapon system shapes how you approach the constant stream of threats.

Gameplay
Move freely within the screen, fire forward, and collect items left behind by enemies. Roman-numeral pickups select the main weapon, while additional items strengthen firepower or add support abilities. These systems offer different kinds of coverage, from broad attacks to concentrated or sweeping shots. Shields, homing missiles, and accompanying gunpods can change how safely you handle a crowded section. Bombs provide another way to respond when enemies and bullets become difficult to manage. Because weapon strength develops during the run, preserving a strong setup is part of making progress through later areas. Bosses require sustained damage and close attention to the safe spaces between attacks. The combination of wide movement, frequent upgrades, and increasingly demanding waves makes survival a matter of managing both position and equipment.
