Hanii on the Road is a lane-switching action platformer for the TurboGrafx-16’s Japanese PC Engine counterpart. The living clay figure from Hanii in the Sky returns on foot, traveling through stages divided into four parallel paths. Choosing a clear lane is central to getting around the enemies, pits, and obstacles scattered across the road.

Gameplay

Move between the four paths, jump over gaps, and use Hanii’s short-range kick to deal with nearby enemies. The lane layout gives each approaching hazard more than one possible response: clear it with a jump, confront it directly, or shift onto a different path. Some sections move automatically, while others let you control the forward progress. In the scrolling sections, the lanes can move at different speeds, adding another consideration when changing position. Collectible jars contribute points and extra-life progress, while other items assist the trip. The original game also allows a second player to join as Lemon. Because danger is distributed across several horizontal routes, watching only the space immediately ahead can leave you unprepared for the next switch. The main objective is to keep both movement and lane choice under control until you reach the end of each course.
