Hisou Kihei – Xserd is a turn-based mecha strategy game for the TurboGrafx-16’s Japanese PC Engine counterpart. You command piloted combat robots and the battleship Altea in a series of tactical missions. An overhead battlefield presents the positions of allied and hostile units, while individual encounters resolve the attacks ordered from the map.

Gameplay

Select a unit, move it into position, and choose an available target or action. The robots differ in mobility, weapon reach, and strength, so placement determines which units can contribute safely to the current fight. Terrain affects engagements, making a direct approach only one possible way to advance. Ammunition and special abilities also influence when to commit a unit to battle. Pilots gain experience through combat, and keeping them alive matters because losses can carry forward into later missions. Altea is particularly important to protect, since losing the battleship can end the operation. The turn-based structure gives you time to compare positions before acting, but every move changes the options available to both sides. The objective is to fulfill each mission’s conditions while preserving enough of your force for the campaign ahead. Japanese commands and dialogue are a substantial part of navigating that process.

Good to know
