Hit the Ice – VHL the Official Video Hockey League is an arcade hockey game for the TurboGrafx-16’s Japanese PC Engine counterpart. Gameplay

Skate toward the opposing net, pass between teammates, and shoot when a lane opens. On defense, use physical challenges to break up an attack and recover the puck. The smaller team size leaves room for rapid end-to-end movement, but losing possession can immediately create a scoring chance in the other direction. Play is divided into three periods, with the winner determined by the final goal total. The TurboGrafx-16 version includes championship competition as well as direct matches and a Shot Race mode centered on scoring attempts. Its arcade presentation emphasizes forceful contact and exaggerated animation, making it easy to recognize a successful hit or a dramatic shot. The practical objective remains simple throughout: create cleaner scoring opportunities than the opponent while keeping your own goal covered. Passing and positioning still matter amid the physical play.
