KickBall is a cartoon sports game for TurboGrafx-16 that adapts the structure of baseball around kicking a ball. Teams take turns attacking and defending, and runners move around bases to score. Its unusual teams and exaggerated presentation give a familiar field sport a playful character.

Gameplay
On offense, the immediate challenge is making useful contact with the incoming ball. A well-placed kick gives runners time to advance, while a poor one lets the defense react quickly. Your aim is to turn those chances into completed trips around the bases and runs on the scoreboard. When the sides switch, the focus moves to covering the field, retrieving the ball, and stopping the other team’s runners. The game adds a dodgeball-like element by allowing defenders to hit runners with the ball to make outs. That changes the relationship between the runner and the nearest fielder, since the danger can come from a direct throw as well as the base ahead. Matches alternate these offensive and defensive tasks, making positioning relevant on both sides. The strange team choices are part of the appeal, but winning still depends on the recognizable cycle of putting the ball in play, advancing runners, and limiting the opponent’s score.
