0 2 1
Kiki Kaikai is an overhead action shooter for TurboGrafx-16 from Taito. You control Sayo, a shrine maiden confronting spirits and monsters drawn from Japanese folklore. Her paper talismans provide ranged attacks, while a purification wand gives her a second way to deal with threats at close range.

Gameplay
Movement and aiming share the same directions, so turning to shoot at an enemy can expose you to a threat from another side. You need to watch the whole play area while advancing along the route. Thrown talismans let you attack across open space, and the wand is useful when a creature gets close. Enemy groups, incoming shots, and narrow passages make positioning more important than holding fire in one direction. Picking up useful items strengthens your chances of reaching the next confrontation. Boss encounters demand a different rhythm from the smaller enemies, with movement centered on avoiding their attacks while keeping a clear firing line. The PC Engine version also includes branching routes, adding choices to the journey. Its overhead layout makes it easy to see nearby paths, but staying alive requires reading how the enemies move through them. Clearing space before advancing helps keep Sayo from being surrounded.
