Maison Ikkoku is a menu-driven adventure for the TurboGrafx-16 based on Rumiko Takahashi’s manga and anime. You play as Yusaku Godai, a resident of the Ikkoku boarding house, and interact with its colorful tenants. The adventure revolves around everyday conversations, useful items, money, and Godai’s relationship with apartment manager Kyoko Otonashi.

Gameplay

Choose commands to examine your surroundings, talk to characters, and use the objects you acquire. Moving between the boarding house and nearby locations lets you find different people and opportunities. Progress often depends on understanding what someone wants, obtaining something they appreciate, and returning with it at the right point in the adventure. Earning money supports these errands, so conversation and practical tasks are closely connected. The open-ended structure gives you room to investigate rather than simply follow a single corridor of scenes. Reactions from the residents help indicate whether an action has been useful. Reading dialogue carefully matters because the next step may come from a request, a comment, or a change in someone’s behavior. The game’s focus stays on social encounters and the gradual development of the relationship at the center of the story.
