Gameplay
Move a cursor to select a piece and choose a legal destination. Each type of piece has its own movement pattern, so reading the board requires familiarity with those symbols and rules. The goal is to checkmate the opposing king while protecting your own. Captured pieces become part of your reserve and can be placed back on the board under the drop rules, making exchanges more than a simple reduction in material. Promotion also changes the possibilities as pieces advance into the opponent’s territory. The game includes an introductory mode with handicap and takeback options, a dojo mode with thinking-time settings, and a mode for setting up mating problems. These choices let you approach shogi through either full games or more focused positions. Careful board reading matters because an available drop can change a position even when few pieces remain in play.
Good to know
The Japan label identifies a release with Japanese menus and Japanese characters on the pieces.
