Gameplay
Play centers on selecting units and issuing orders across the map. Movement determines which enemies a formation can engage and where it will stand when the opponent responds. Foot soldiers, archers, and mounted troops bring different strengths to the battlefield. Their relationships encourage you to consider the target before committing to an attack; spearmen, for example, are useful against cavalry. The hex grid gives each position several approaches, so a formation’s location affects both its immediate options and the pressure around it. Battles fit into the wider struggle between rival sides during Japan’s period of divided imperial courts. Choosing a side gives your campaign its perspective on that conflict. Progress depends on defeating opposing forces and securing a stronger position across the land. Because actions proceed by turns, you can review the battlefield and consider an order before executing it. The focus stays on command decisions and managing the army’s position from one engagement to the next.
