Gameplay
You begin in human form, confronting enemies while looking for the correct path through each area. Defeating certain bosses grants the ability to transform into an animal, opening different approaches to movement and combat. The available forms include a wolf, bear, owl, and badger. Their different sizes and abilities matter when the route calls for flight, a powerful attack, or passage through a small opening. This makes acquiring and choosing forms part of exploration as well as fighting. Weapons offer further ways to deal with the creatures blocking your progress. The route to Hecate is not simply a matter of walking straight ahead, since understanding connections between areas helps you find where to go next. Health and the threats along each passage keep movement deliberate. The transformation system gives the curse a practical role in the adventure: the same supernatural change that threatens the hero also supplies the abilities needed to pursue its source.
