Ninja Ryuuken Den is a side-scrolling action platformer for the TurboGrafx-16, adapting the first console Ninja Gaiden adventure. You control Ryu Hayabusa through enemy-filled stages, combining sword strikes with jumping and wall-clinging movement. Story scenes connect the action as Ryu becomes involved in a dangerous supernatural conflict.

Gameplay
Each stage asks you to cross hazards and defeat enemies while keeping enough health to reach its end. The sword handles close threats, but its limited reach makes approach and timing important. Collectible ninja weapons add ranged attacks and special techniques, giving you other ways to deal with enemies above or beyond sword range. Their use depends on the resources gathered along the route. Ryu can cling to walls and spring away from them, turning vertical surfaces into part of the platforming. This becomes especially important when crossing gaps or finding a way up a confined passage. Enemies placed near ledges make a poorly timed jump particularly costly. Boss fights close out major sections and require you to recognize when an attack leaves room to strike back. The combination of wall movement, sword combat, and cinematic story breaks gives the game a rhythm that alternates quick physical challenges with the unfolding plot.
