Paranoia is a horizontal shoot ’em up for the TurboGrafx-16 platform, released in Japan on PC Engine. Known in North America as Psychosis, it sends a small craft through surreal environments with insectlike and biological enemies. Its distinctive feature is a pair of support satellites that can change position around your ship.

Gameplay
The screen scrolls continuously as you fire at approaching enemies and move around their shots. Power-ups bring the satellites into play, adding both protection and new firing possibilities. You can reposition them in front of, behind, above, or below the main craft to suit the direction of the threat. Their placement changes which approaches are easiest to cover, so movement involves more than steering the ship alone. Further pickups alter their attacks or defensive properties. A boss waits at the end of each stage, requiring you to learn its firing pattern while keeping your weapons on target. The unusual scenery can make the action busy, but the important information is the same throughout: where the next shot is coming from, which space remains open, and how your satellites can help you hold that space.
