R-Type is a horizontal shoot ’em up for the TurboGrafx-16, adapted from Irem’s arcade game. You pilot the R-9 against the Bydo, navigating enclosed routes filled with hostile creatures and machinery. Its signature equipment is the Force, a detachable pod that combines extra firepower with protection from many incoming shots.

Gameplay
The main gun fires ordinary shots or charges a stronger beam when held. Using the charge means balancing immediate fire against a larger attack that takes time to prepare. Weapon pickups change the Force’s attack pattern, while its position changes how you can use that pattern. You can attach it to the front or back of the ship, or launch it ahead as an independent weapon. Those choices matter when enemies approach from behind or occupy spaces too dangerous for the R-9 itself. The scrolling environments include tight passages and solid scenery, making route knowledge valuable alongside accurate shooting. A lost ship sends you back to a checkpoint and removes upgrades, so rebuilding firepower becomes part of recovery. Boss encounters test how well you can recognize openings while staying clear of their attacks.

How to Play R-Type (USA)?
Pilot the R-9 through each stage and destroy the bosses. Charge the beam and attach or launch the Force pod to attack enemies while protecting your ship.
Game Controls
Arrow keys act as the D-pad and Enter is Start; the other action buttons are mapped to keyboard keys in the player.
