Raiden is a vertically scrolling shoot ’em up for the TurboGrafx-16, based on Seibu Kaihatsu’s arcade game. You fly a fighter over ground installations and through formations of enemy aircraft. Its weapon system pairs a main gun with missiles, while a limited bomb supply gives you a heavier response to dangerous situations.

Gameplay
The main weapon changes between a wide red spread and a concentrated blue laser. Collecting matching power-ups strengthens your current attack, so the color of a pickup matters when deciding what to collect. Secondary weapons offer straight missiles or homing missiles, adding another choice about coverage. You must keep moving around aimed shots while dealing with both airborne targets and enemies on the ground. Ground threats can remain dangerous while you concentrate on incoming aircraft, making screen awareness essential. Bombs deliver heavy damage in a limited area and can help during crowded encounters, but their supply must last between pickups. Medals add a scoring incentive to movement through the stage. Reaching for one still means considering enemy fire and the space available for escape. Bosses close out stages with larger targets and sustained attack patterns.
