Raiden is a TurboGrafx-16 vertical shoot ’em up adapted from Seibu Kaihatsu’s arcade shooter. Its compact fighter faces a mixture of aircraft, ground weapons, and large bosses. Gameplay
The fighter moves freely within the scrolling playfield while its weapons fire toward incoming targets. Red pickups supply a spreading gun that covers a wider area, while blue pickups supply a narrower laser. Repeated upgrades increase the strength of the selected weapon. Missile pickups let you choose between forward fire and homing attacks, giving you another way to handle targets outside the main gun’s line. Bullets from ground positions demand attention even when the upper screen is full of aircraft. Your movement has to account for both sources of danger while leaving room to collect upgrades. Bombs provide a limited heavy attack whose placement matters against larger targets. Collectible medals also reward surviving long enough to build a score. The result is a straightforward shooting loop in which weapon growth and deliberate dodging support each other throughout the run.
