Rock-On is a horizontally scrolling shoot ’em up for the TurboGrafx-16 and PC Engine. You control a small, rounded spacecraft through enemy-filled zones, collecting weapons and treasure along the way. The ship carries a regular gun alongside selectable special weapons, giving its controls a different rhythm from a single-button shooter.

Gameplay

Movement keeps the ship clear of enemies and their shots as the scenery scrolls. The standard gun and the equipped special weapon use separate action buttons, so choosing an attack also means choosing which firing control to use. The ship can hold three special weapon types, and the Run button cycles between them during play. This puts weapon selection directly into the action instead of leaving it only to pickups. Watching how an equipped attack behaves helps you decide when to use it alongside the regular shot. Treasure collection adds another reason to move away from a safe position, but reaching an item must be weighed against the surrounding threats. Progress depends on clearing the game’s zones while preserving enough lives to continue. Its main demands are learning the separate firing functions, controlling position, and recognizing enemy approaches before the space around the ship becomes crowded.
