Sengoku Mahjong is a Japanese mahjong game for the TurboGrafx-16 and PC Engine, developed by Hudson Soft. Historical figures from Japan’s Warring States period become your opponents at the table. A conventional match mode sits alongside a conquest mode that turns mahjong victories into progress across a map of Japan.

Gameplay

You play at a four-seat table against three computer-controlled opponents. Each turn involves drawing a tile, evaluating your hand, and choosing a discard. The goal is to complete a legal winning hand while paying attention to what the other players discard and claim. Keeping a promising tile can improve your chances, but releasing a dangerous one may help an opponent finish first. The game presents character portraits and reactions around the match, giving the historical cast a visible presence during play. Normal mode lets you choose opponents for a direct session. Conquest mode connects matches through territorial progress, giving each result a broader purpose. Understanding Japanese mahjong rules matters in both, particularly the conditions required to declare a valid win. The central contest remains the same across the map: improve your hand while limiting opportunities for the other seats.
