Sinistron is a horizontally scrolling shoot ’em up for the TurboGrafx-16. You pilot a spacecraft through hostile territory, firing ahead while navigating enemy formations and obstacles. The ship’s most distinctive feature is its adjustable armored jaws. Opening them changes the spread of your shots, turning the front of the craft into a system that balances protection against wider fire coverage.

Gameplay
The screen advances automatically, leaving you to manage position and attacks within the available space. Weapon pickups provide different firing patterns, including a laser, flame weapon, and homing missiles. Once upgraded, the jaws can open to cover more of the screen or close to concentrate damage. A wider pattern makes it easier to catch scattered targets, but exposes the cockpit at the front. Closing the jaws offers a narrower attack and more protection from incoming fire. Speed pickups and supporting drones add further changes to the ship’s handling and defenses. There is also a charged attack for nearby threats. Across the stages, tight passages and larger enemies make the ship’s size matter: every movement must account for the space around its body as well as its firing direction.
