Sonic Spike – World Championship Beach Volleyball is a TurboGrafx-16 sports game built around two-person beach volleyball teams. You control the athletes as they serve, receive, and attack across a sand court. Selecting players is part of the setup, with different strengths affecting the team you bring into a match. The game offers tournament play as well as a training option for learning its movement and ball timing.

Gameplay
During a rally, you move into position beneath the ball and time hits to keep it in play. Jumping creates opportunities to spike at the net or block an incoming attack. In a single-player match, switching between teammates is necessary to cover the court and prepare a return. The two-person lineup leaves plenty of space to defend, making recovery after an attack an important part of the next exchange. Athlete energy decreases during play, and a limited supply of water restores it. That adds a small resource decision to the usual task of winning points. Training provides a way to practice the basic exchanges before entering longer competition. A good rally depends on both the player nearest the ball and the teammate positioned for the following touch.
