Space Harrier is a third-person rail shooter for the TurboGrafx-16, adapted from Sega’s arcade game. You control a flying hero seen from behind as he travels through a colorful fantasy world. Enemies, shots, trees, and pillars rush toward the screen, turning each stage into a continuous test of aiming and movement. The forward pace is automatic, while you decide where the hero moves within the view.

Gameplay
Moving left and right or rising and dropping helps you avoid incoming hazards while firing into the distance. The same movement that keeps you safe also changes your line of fire, so attacking and dodging remain closely linked. Objects grow larger as they approach, giving a visual cue to how soon a collision may happen. Some obstacles can be destroyed, while others require a clear path around them. Enemy groups and large bosses break up the forward flight with different patterns to read. The checkerboard ground and shifting scenery reinforce the sense of speed as the route carries you ahead. Survival depends on recognizing threats early enough to move smoothly rather than waiting until an object fills the center of the screen.
