Special Criminal Investigation is an arcade-style police driving game for the TurboGrafx-16 and PC Engine. A follow-up to Chase H.Q., it puts you behind a fast pursuit car as you catch dangerous suspects on public roads. Driving and vehicle combat share the action: reaching the target is the beginning of an arrest, and damaging the fleeing vehicle becomes the next task.

Gameplay
The road stretches toward the horizon, with bends, other traffic, and roadside hazards affecting your approach. Steering through gaps keeps the chase moving, while collisions can waste the limited time available. Once you close on the suspect, gunfire adds another way to wear down the target alongside ramming attacks. Staying near the vehicle makes it easier to keep pressure on it, but also puts you close to its movements and the traffic around you. The chase shifts between finding a clear route, closing the distance, and maintaining contact long enough to stop the escape. Because the road keeps moving throughout the confrontation, aiming at the suspect cannot replace attention to the next curve. Successful arrests depend on managing both parts of the pursuit together.
