Splatterhouse is a side-scrolling horror action game for the TurboGrafx-16 and PC Engine. You play as Rick, a masked fighter trying to rescue Jennifer from a mansion filled with monsters. The action unfolds along a single plane, combining close combat with jumps, traps, and encounters against larger creatures. Its unsettling rooms and heavy attacks give the journey a deliberate, threatening pace.

Gameplay
Rick punches, kicks, crouches, and jumps as enemies approach from either side. Since movement follows one horizontal line, distance and timing are essential to surviving a confrontation. Standing just outside an enemy’s reach creates an opening, while a badly timed advance can leave Rick taking damage before his attack connects. Weapons found along the way extend his reach or provide a different form of offense, including a wooden board and a limited-ammunition shotgun. Environmental hazards interrupt the fighting, requiring attention to the floor and the next landing point. Boss encounters emphasize recognizing a pattern and finding a safe moment to strike. Moving through the house is therefore a sequence of short, dangerous exchanges rather than a continuous rush, with each room asking you to balance aggression against the health remaining.
