Stratego is a turn-based board game adaptation for the TurboGrafx-16 and PC Engine. You command an army whose ranks are hidden from the opposing side, trying to capture the enemy flag while protecting your own. The computer handles the opposing force, and each encounter reveals information about a piece. Deployment, deduction, and careful sacrifices matter as much as moving a powerful unit forward.

Gameplay

Before the battle, you arrange your pieces on your side of the board. Most mobile units move one square at a time, while scouts can cover longer straight paths. When opposing pieces meet, their ranks determine the outcome, and the stronger unit normally survives. Bombs create fixed dangers, miners can remove them, and the spy has a special relationship with the highest-ranking enemy. Because the opponent’s identities begin concealed, a small probing attack can reveal a route or expose an important defender. Remembering those discoveries helps you decide which pieces to challenge and which to avoid. A strong attacking unit still needs support against hidden threats, and moving defenders away can leave the flag vulnerable. Each turn develops both the battlefield position and your knowledge of the enemy army.
