Gameplay

Before each down, you select an offensive or defensive play from the available formations. On offense, the choice determines how the attack develops and where a runner or receiver may find space. Once play begins, you guide the action directly, trying to gain enough yards to keep the drive alive and eventually reach the end zone. Passing requires attention to where the ball will land as well as where the receiver is moving, so timing influences the outcome of an attempted completion. On defense, choosing how to cover a run or pass sets up the next attempt to stop the ball carrier. Field position also makes kicking decisions part of the contest, with punts and scoring kicks serving different purposes. A successful game brings the tactical and physical parts together: call a suitable play, execute it, and adjust when the opposing team forces a change of plan.
