W-Ring – The Double Rings is a horizontally scrolling shoot ’em up for the TurboGrafx-16. You fly a spacecraft through enemy-filled stages, collecting colored power-ups that change its weapons and add rings around it. The scrolling environments include both open fighting space and tighter passages, so survival depends on handling the terrain as well as the enemies.

Gameplay
The basic task is to keep firing while moving clear of shots, enemy craft, and solid scenery. Different pickup colors select different weapon systems, giving you a choice of attack patterns as you advance. Repeated pickups increase weapon power, and the rings surrounding the ship provide an extra layer of protection. Each stage builds toward a larger enemy encounter that requires you to recognize attack patterns and find safe positions. Some sections put more pressure on navigation, including a maze-like area where choosing the correct passage matters. Three difficulty settings let you change the level of resistance, and a rapid-fire option supports sustained shooting. The ship has freedom to move around the screen, but the forward scroll means every movement should account for what is coming next. Preserving upgraded equipment makes it easier to keep control as enemy formations become more demanding.
