World Beach Volley is a two-on-two volleyball game for the TurboGrafx-16, released in North America under the title Sonic Spike. Small cartoon-style athletes compete on outdoor courts, serving and returning the ball across the net. The action follows the basic flow of beach volleyball, with positioning and the timing of each touch determining how a rally develops.

Gameplay

A point begins with a serve and continues as both sides try to keep the ball from landing on their court. Move into position to receive an incoming shot, set up a return, and send the ball toward space the opposing pair cannot cover. A strong attack is useful, but recovering your position afterward is part of staying in the rally. The two-player team structure makes coverage important because one athlete cannot comfortably protect every part of the court. Players have different attributes, giving team choice an effect on how the match feels. Normal matches provide a direct contest, while tournament play strings results into a longer challenge. Each exchange asks you to track the ball’s movement and judge where it will arrive. The goal is to turn a controlled reception into an effective attack while keeping both sides of your own court covered.
